NSW’s best and brightest defence and aerospace companies will showcase their capabilities to key global decision makers at a major international event this week.

The NSW Government is supporting 39 businesses and research organisations to attend the AVALON 2023 Australian International Airshow.

Investment NSW CEO Katie Knight said disruptions to international supply chains and rising geopolitical tensions mean a stronger sovereign defence and aerospace industry has become a national priority.

“With 40% of Australia’s defence industry and more than a quarter of all national defence personnel at 100 ADF facilities, bases, and training sites across NSW, we are integral to building and sustaining the nation’s defence capability and capacity underpinned by our technologically advanced, industrial base and highly skilled workforce,” Ms Knight said.

“AVALON 2023 offers a global stage for NSW businesses to showcase the breadth and depth of their complex capabilities to senior aerospace, aviation, space and defence industry, military and government decision-makers from Australia and abroad.”

NSW businesses will showcase key elements across manufacturing, cyber security, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence through to radio frequency sensing, counter drones, satellite systems and ground stations.

MicroTau Founder and CEO Henry Bilinsky said the expo is the ideal platform to promote his advanced manufacturing company’s drag-reducing ‘shark skin’ film to strategic partners and aviation operators from home and abroad.

“Our technology can save the commercial aviation industry US$20 billion worth of fuel and prevent 92 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually,” Mr Bilinsky said.

“The NSW Government’s support is incredibly valuable as the expo puts us in front of industry leaders to build our customer pipeline and showcase our experience in scaling deep tech and advanced manufacturing.”

A finalist in the Avalon 2023 Innovation Awards, MicroTau is considering a move from Sydenham to Tech Central while it develops a new riblet film product, certified for use on commercial aircraft.
