NSW Biotech in the hands of global buyers


The Biotechnology Innovation Organisation (BIO) International Convention 2021 is the world’s largest annual biotech partnering and education event, convening thousands of global biotech leaders and innovators.

The event, usually held in the United States, was held virtually this year due to the pandemic, with NSW’s participation in partnership with AusBiotech, Australia’s industry body representing life sciences.

Investment NSW CEO Amy Brown said the health sector is a priority industry and export sector for NSW.

“NSW researchers and businesses are on the cutting-edge of biotechnology and medical innovation and BIO Digital 2021 was an opportunity to showcase our ideas to the world to grow exports and expand our industry’s global business presence,” Ms Brown said.

“Our delegates represented NSW’s best and brightest, including The Children’s Medical Research Institute, which presented a world-first proteogenomic diagnostic tool able to analyse tens of thousands of types of cancer. I am delighted to have supported their attendance at this important global event.”

Tom Millar, CEO of Beyond 700, producers of medical device TearView, said BIO Digital provided them with direct introductions with venture capitalists in the US.

“We’ve been able to connect with venture capitalists such as Brandon Capital, and ophthalmic pharmaceutical companies who are potential users of our device as well as with corporate government agencies in the US who will facilitate us developing a marketing and business presence there,” said Mr Millar.

Dr Vijay Paul, Co-CEO, Vantari VR, said Vantari’s virtual reality technology is world- leading and can be leveraged to address the $1 trillion dollar per year medical error problem in the US.
“BIO Digital was the perfect opportunity and platform for Vantari to showcase its technology to potential US partners,” Dr Paul said.
