Case study: Australia’s first lithium-ion battery manufacturer

Energy Renaissance produces climate-optimised lithium-ion batteries for utility and commercial users at their advanced manufacturing facility near Newcastle in NSW.

Opportunity

Battery demand is quickly outstripping supply in the global market.

Energy Renaissance is the first Australian company to have local lithium-ion battery manufacturing capabilities. They are supporting NSW, Australia and the broader region in the journey towards net zero.

How we helped

Investment NSW worked with Energy Renaissance over 24 months to identify rapidly emerging sectors including electric buses and commercial trucks.

We provided introductions to industry connections, resulting in new research and development activities targeting these opportunities.

We also brought like-minded companies together  — including some of Australia’s first cathode and anode manufacturers — to secure NSW’s local manufacturing and supply chain capabilities.

“The team at Investment NSW have helped connect us with like-minded partners across the battery supply chain, and we look forward to doing much more with the Investment NSW team in the near future.”

Future growth

Energy Renaissance’s entry into the Australian market signals a new era of advanced manufacturing and generates job opportunities in NSW.

Within the next few years, Energy Renaissance expects to employ hundreds of people directly in Newcastle and many more people indirectly across NSW and Australia.
