Business Size Report

Report

Understanding the number and profiles of employing businesses in NSW is important for developing policies and programs that drive economic development and support job creation.

To unpack the drivers of state-level economies, we need measures such as business size and business counts, share of turnover, employment, exports and profit.

The Business Size Report adds to the ongoing discussion on business size by sharing key data on the economic contribution and distribution of NSW’s employing businesses.

For the first time, aggregated NSW firm-level data on selected business size categories of employing firms and various economic indicators are available by analysing firm-level microdata in the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Business Longitudinal Data Analysis Environment (BLADE).

The report also includes insights of the economic contribution, dominant industries, and innovation and productivity characteristics for different business sizes.

Findings support evidence-based discussions and assessments of the economic contributions and growth of businesses in the NSW economy.
