Jobs Plus Program
The $250 million Jobs Plus ProgramExternal Link supports companies who want to establish and expand their footprint in NSW. The program reduces the cost of establishment, financial risk and increases speed-to-market for businesses looking to scale and grow in NSW.
Net Zero Industry and Innovation Program
With $750 million in funding opportunities, the Net Zero Industry and Innovation ProgramExternal Link supports and partners with industry to reduce emissions and help NSW businesses prosper in a low carbon world.
It has 3 focus areas:
- clean technology innovation
- new low carbon industry foundations
- high emitting industries.
Examples of funding streams are below.
Clean Technology Research and Development Grants Program
The $40 million program invests in research and development of commercially viable technologies, services or processes that have potential to significantly reduce emissions of high emitting or hard-to-abate sectors within the NSW economy.
Research development and commercialisation infrastructure grants
Supports the development of world-leading research, development and commercialisation infrastructure in NSW to accelerate the shift to net zero emissions by 2050.
Grants for commercialisation and pilots
Supports start-ups, entrepreneurs and researchers to bring proven technologies and services to market in Australia and internationally.
NSW Hydrogen Strategy
The NSW Hydrogen StrategyExternal Link provides up to $3 billion in incentives to support industry development to set the state up as a global green hydrogen superpower.
In addition to delivering an already committed $70 million to develop the state’s hydrogen hubsExternal Link in the Illawarra and the Hunter, the strategy includes:
- exemptions for green hydrogen production from government charges
- a 90% exemption from electricity network charges for green hydrogen producers who connect to parts of the network with spare capacity
- incentives for green hydrogen production
- a hydrogen refuelling station network to be rolled out across the state.
Regional Job Creation Fund
The $130 million Regional Job Creation Fund supports existing businesses in regional NSW to grow and encourages interstate or overseas businesses to invest in regional NSW.
Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund
The $4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to invest in major and transformative infrastructure across regional NSW.
Emerging Industry Infrastructure Fund
The $8 million Emerging Industry Infrastructure FundExternal Link targets new industries where NSW has, or could have, competitive advantage and where co-investment in joint infrastructure will both build existing industry and attract global companies and investment into NSW. The target infrastructure will be embedded in a relevant NSW innovation precinct.
Waste and recycling grants
Waste management funding and grantsExternal Link in NSW, including the $35 million Remanufacture NSW ProgramExternal Link, which provides cofunding for waste and recycling infrastructure to support the resource recovery sectors response to Australia’s waste export ban.
Circular solar grants
GrantsExternal Link which support collaborative ‘whole-of-supply chain’ projects in NSW that trial managing end-of-life solar panels and/or battery systems within a circular economy framework.
Boosting Business Innovation Program
Funding for small to medium enterprises (SMEs)External Link who want to scale up and innovate through access to research organisations to build strong local business communities and stimulate economic growth in metropolitan and regional NSW.
Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC)
ARENAExternal Link provides funding and financing opportunities for new renewable energy projects spanning the entire innovation chain.
CEFCExternal Link invests $10 billion in agriculture, cleantech innovation, energy generation and storage, infrastructure, property, transport and waste.
NSW received around 60% of CEFC funding and over half of ARENA funding in 2016-17.
Research and development tax incentive
The Australian Government’s Research and Development Tax IncentiveExternal Link encourages businesses to invest in research and development. Tax offsets are available for costs incurred on eligible activities.
