Why these markets

Singapore and Malaysia are two promising markets for energy transition and cleantech opportunities. Both countries are prioritizing sustainability and are investing heavily in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green technologies to meet their growing environmental and energy demands.

With bold sustainability targets and substantial investment in renewable energy, Singapore and Malaysia are positioning themselves as key players in the ASEAN region’s clean energy future.

Singapore: As a global financial hub and a leader in innovation, Singapore is committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 36% (2030 compared to 2005 levels). The country has also set a target of generating 2 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy by 2030 to meet 3% of the nation’s electricity demand, with plans to invest in green technologies and smart grids. Singapore is aiming to have 100% of its energy come from low-carbon sources by 2050, providing substantial opportunities for cleantech businesses (Source: Singapore Green Plan 2030, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment).

Malaysia: Malaysia is focusing on increasing its renewable energy capacity, with a goal of achieving 20% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2025. The country is also exploring green hydrogen, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems to further enhance its energy transition. Malaysia’s 2021 "National Energy Policy 2021-2040," includes substantial investments in renewable energy projects (Source: Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Malaysia).

These efforts, supported by private sector interest, present significant growth opportunities in cleantech, including solar, energy storage, and green infrastructure.
